Updates vs Blog
I’m not sure the difference between a page titled Updates and a page titled Blog, beyond the scheduling of it all. Because aren’t blogs just updates on a regular basis? I Won’t Keep You: Short Essays & Little Fictions continues to sell on various platforms, as well as to individuals locally. Speaking of local, not only is IWKY in our public library, but it’s also finally in Omaha’s oldest independent bookstore, The Bookworm.
“On our shelves. . .”
I can even keep track of updated inventory via their website, and it’s apparently still in stock, which means I should visit my books on the shelves and snap a little pic.
A couple of months ago, I deleted my Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. It had been years since I’d posted on Twitter, and I never posted on X. But back in the day, from about 2010 to 2013, I was a Twitter addict, so I downloaded as much of my activity as was stored on their servers, and erased the X into a tiny oblivion. I used Facebook mainly for access to our local Buy Nothing Group. But Instagram. . . now Instagram was my love. A platform I’d been on since 2014, that slowly became a new vein in my body. An elastic artery that I snipped, once and for all; a cut that has not damaged beyond gaining a few pounds, likely due to my lack of selfies.
One negative effect tho is that I have been at a promotional standstill with my book. Not that IG garnered me a ton of sales, but it was a visual reminder that IWKY existed. It was likely a reminder of my existence too. How many IG lurkers have already forgotten the photos and updates of @graugirl? So I will go the pre-social-media-internet route (i.e. newsletters and website updates), as well as the analog route (i.e. postcards, zines left in crevices and mailed to others, and maybe I will even rent a space on the picnic table where my neighbor kids sling sweet lemonade.)
See you for the next update, and until then, buy my book or feel free to holler at me via email.
